THE HISTORY OF SCIENTOLOGY’S EXPANSION

The Year of Technical Breakthroughs

Christened “The Year of Technical Breakthroughs,” 1978 was another landmark with the release of New Era Dianetics, providing lightning-fast gains for those who were not yet Clear. In cities across the world – now including Oslo, Norway; Bern, Switzerland; and Milano, Italy – students entered course rooms to learn the techniques of NED.

Later that year, New Era Dianetics for OTs (New OT V) was introduced. As word of the truly extraordinary gains this level offered circulated, more and more Scientologists began congregating at the Flag Land Base.

Still more technical releases were celebrated in 1979, most notably the Purification program to rid the body of harmful residuals of drugs and environmental pollutants.

To accommodate the vast number of Scientologists arriving at Flag, the 100-room Sandcastle Hotel, half a mile from the Fort Harrison Hotel, was purchased and renovated.

By the end of June 1980, more than twenty new churches had been founded in locations as diverse as Brussels, Belgium, and Bogotá, Colombia.
