ETHNIC AND CULTURAL AFFAIRS
By the Creed of the Church, All men of whatever race, color or creed were created with equal rights. In its efforts to secure freedom and human rights for all individuals, the Church of Scientology has provided effective assistance for members of minority groups who have suffered hardship owing to their race or beliefs.
In the United States, the Church of Scientology maintains an Office of Ethnic and Cultural Affairs to coordinate Church efforts on behalf of all minorities. One of the services of this office has been to publish a popular column, syndicated in newspapers around the country, providing positive guidelines on educational reform, self-esteem and other applications of L. Ron Hubbards technology.
The Church provided the first national exposure of then-widespread racial discrimination against US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) employees by IRS officials. In the early 1990s, Scientologists investigated and exposed voluminous reports received on the IRSs discriminatory policies and practices in Chicago; New York; Los Angeles; Indianapolis; Kansas City; Jackson, Mississippi; and Norfolk, Virginia.
