SOLUTIONS TO A TROUBLED SOCIETY
Each of these international organizations are separate, secular organizations in their own right, and each has its own history of vital contributions to society. Through the application of Mr. Hubbard’s secular technology, they have successfully improved the lives of millions in this troubled world.
These social betterment groups exist to bring about genuine improvement of conditions on a planetwide scale – a goal shared by all Scientologists. Their activities, while secular in nature, are supported by churches of Scientology and individual Scientologists around the world who volunteer their time and talents.
Every society is composed of individuals. When a large number of them reach a point where they lack self-worth and competence, are unable and/or unwilling to contribute productively, lack respect for the rights of others and themselves, and see no solution to their predicament, we then have a society in serious trouble. However, when the majority is salvaged and placed upon a path to greater survival for themselves and others, we have a society willing to resolve the problems of the present and able to create a future in which a civilization can thrive.
It is such a future that these social betterment groups work to achieve. The following chapters describe their activities and the work they are doing to make this future a reality.
